VI. Accomplishment of FY 98 Tasks and Deliverables, Discussion of Initial Findings and
Shortcomings:

A concerted effort was made to collect spawning razorback suckers in the middle Green
River. Several individuals (many not funded) participated in the event which occurred
between 5 May and 28 May 1998. The participants attempted to collect fish from
razorback bar and Escalante bar on II different days, including 2 night sessions.
During the day, two electrofishing boats and one john boat were used; at night only used
a single electroshocking boat was used.

Twenty one razorback suckers were collected from the Green River. Four of the fish
were females and 13 had previously been PIT tagged. One of the males had been
spawned in 1993, so it was immediately released to the river. The 4 females and 7 ripe
males were transported to the Ouray National Fish Hatchery, held in wann water and
injected with HCG hormone. Females were striped of their eggs when they became ripe.
Two of the females produced viable eggs; the other two females produced a small
quantity of poor quality eggs that did not fertilze. Adult fish were returned to the Green
River within 5 days of spawning, in good condition. Two lots were produced: one of
391 and the other of 12,888 larvae (6,000 were transported to Wahweap State Fish
Hatchery).

VII. Recommendations:

Continue to collect spawning razorback, particulalry females, sucker from the razorback
bar and other activities to complete the 25x25 mated pairs for broodstock and genetic
integrity .

VIII.
