<br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. ....... ~ <br />IJJl. <br /> <br />supported by known characteristics in other areas. <br /> <br />Land Use <br /> <br />Irrigable lands associated with the study of the North Sterling <br />Irrigation District are based upon 46,274 acres as shown in tables 15 <br />and 17. This represents the total land classified as irrigable in <br />the North Sterling Irrigation District. The irrigable area of this <br />District included in the Lower South Platte Water Conservancy Dis- <br />trict totals 46,094 acres. This minor adjustment is due to estab- <br />lishing the District by legal subdivisions and in no way affects <br />the representativeness of the study area. <br /> <br />Farm Size <br /> <br />The adopted farm size for the repayment and benefit analysis <br />is based upon farm schedules taken in the North Sterling Irrigation <br />District. The data collected are presented in table 16. Uy exclud- <br />ing the smallest and largest size groupings and calculating the <br />average size of the remaining farms, it was found that a 490-acre <br />farm was most representative of the central tendency. This size, <br />represents about 76 percent of the total number of farms and <br />about 75 percent of the total ~resently irrigated acreage. The <br />total number of farms in the North Sterling Irrigation District, <br />shown in table 17, is based on county assessor's records. A modest <br />increase to a 530-acre. farm has been allowed under future "with" <br />and"without"conditions to reflect recent trends in size of farm- <br />ing operations. <br /> <br />Farms by Tenure of Operator <br /> <br />The farm survey of the North Sterling Irrigation District showed <br />that out of 49 farm interViews, 19 farms (39 percent) were operated <br />by full owners, 12 farms (24 percent) were operated by part owners <br />and the remaining 18 farms (37 percent) were tenant operated. <br /> <br />Presented in table 18 are number and size of farms, with <br />irrigated and other land per farm by tenure of operator in the <br />North Sterling Irrigation District as derived from the farm survey. <br /> <br />Type of Farm <br /> <br />Farm schedules <br />North Sterling area <br />fication criteria. <br /> <br />indicate that most irrigated farms in the <br />are general farms according to census classi- <br />All farm budgets reflect this economic situation. <br /> <br />25 <br />
