Farms by Tenure of Operator

The U. S. Census of Agriculture classifies tenure of farm
operators into four principal classifications.

A. Full Owners - Operators who operate on~ land they
own.
B. Part Owners - Operators who operate land they own
and also land rented from others.
C. Managers - Operators who operate land for others
and are paid a wage or salary for their services.
D. Tenants - Operators who rent from others or work
on shares for others all the land they operate.

Table 12 shows the number of farms by tenure for the four
counties containing the Narrows Unit. Table 13 sho~s the size of
farm by tenure of operator. Although these tables are based upon
all farms in the project's four counties, they clear~ indicate the
relative importance of each type of farm operator in the area.

Crop Production

Historic yield data are presented in a subsequent section
entitled "North Sterling Irrigation District Study Area." Yield
levels for the period 1953-1962 are reported later in table 21,
for Morgan, Logan and Sedgwick counties which include most of
the Narrows Unit land. Comparative data for Colorado-Big Thompson
lands for the years having a full water supp~ are also presented in
table 21.
