Average annual precipitation ranges from 8 to
12 inches. The dominant soils in the treatment area are Chipeta complex and Mack loam soils.
Chipeta complex soils are highly saline and Mack loam soils are slightly saline. As a result of
the higher precipitation the soils in this treatment area have a higher resilience than soils of the
same type found lower in the watershed. Seeding potential in this treatment area is more
favorable than similar areas lower in the watershed due to the higher precipitation,

TA-4 thm TA-lO, Contour Pits and Cisco Pits-

Treatment Areas 4 thru 10 cover a total area of 7291 acres and are located in the middle to
lower portion of the Greater Sagers Wash Watershed, adjacent to Interstate 70. The dominant
vegetation in these treatment areas is Atriplex (saltbush). The treatment areas have a south-
southeast aspect and the average percent slope is approximately 5%. Average annual
precipitation ranges from 5 to 8 inches. The dominant soils in the treatment areas are Chipeta
complex, Killpack silt loam, and Killpack-Blueflat complex soils, Chipeta complex soils are
strongly saline and Killpack silt loam and Killpack-Blueflat complex soils are moderately saline.

TA-ll, Cisco Pits Maintenance -

Treatment Area 11 covers an area of approximately 6000 acres and is located in the southeast
section of the Greater Sagers Wash Watershed. The treatment area is bounded on the south by
the main channel of Sagers Wash and on the west by the main channel of Nash Wash, Cisco
Pits and contour furrows were constructed in this area during the 1960's and many of the Cisco
Pits are still functional, The treatment area has a south-southeast aspect and the average percent
slope is approximately 4%. Average annual precipitation ranges from 5 to 8 inches. The
dominant vegetation in these treatment areas is Atriplex (saltbush). The dominant soils in the
treatment area are Blueflat complex, Blueflat-Neiber complex, and Killpack-Blueflat complex
soils. Blueflat complex, Blueflat-Neiber complex, and Killpack-Blueflat complex soils are
moderately saline, The existing Cisco Pits have had good success in trapping sediment and
diverting overland flow. This treatment presents a good opportunity to enhance approximately
25 % of the existing Cisco Pits and increase the overall effectiveness of the existing practice.

TA-12, Water Spreaders -

Treatment Area 12 covers an area of approximately 960 acres located on Sagers Flat, directly
adjacent to the main channel of Sagers Wash. The treatment area has a south aspect and the
average percent slope is approximately 4%. Average annual precipitation ranges from 5 to 8
inches. The dominant vegetation in this treatment area is Atriplex (saltbush) and Sarcobatus
(greasewood). The dominant soils in the treatment area are Toddler-Ravola-Glenton families
association soils. Toddler-Rivola-Glenton families association soils are moderately saline.
Diverting highly saline runoff water containing large amounts of sediment out of the Sagers

41
