Site characteristics
including precipitation zone, soil type, and topographic features were considered before selecting
specific project sites and treatments,

Selected treatment areas and associated treatments have been given a priority ranking based on
the potential for project success and potential for sediment and salt retention.

Each of the thirteen treatments are composed of one or more of six treatments described below.

TREATMENT DESCRIPTIONS

I) Grazing Management - See Appendix A3 for a complete description of grazing
management alternatives. See Figure A-6,O for the location of grazing allotments.

la) No grazing - Under this treatment grazing would be closed on the Cisco, Mounument
Wash, and Taylor Allotments,

The effect of this treatment is an increase in ground cover and decrease in soil compaction.

The result of this treatment is a decrease in runoff volume and runoff velocity, increased
infLltration, and increased on site sediment retention.

Ib) Modified Grazing - Under this treatment grazing management would be modified on the
Cisco, Mounment Wash, and Taylor Allotments. Modifications would include one or more of
the following adjustments: 1) change in numbers of animals, 2) change in the distribution of
animals, 3) change in the season of grazing use, or 4) use of grazing systems that require little
or no range improvements. Management objectives would be accomplished without mechanical
treatment of vegetation or construction of fences or cattIeguards, however construction of four
water developments will be necessary.

Treatment effects and results would be the same as those in treatment I a.

Ic) Intensive Management - Under this treatment grazing management would be intensively
modified on the Cisco, Monument Wash, and Taylor Allotments,

Modifications would include installation of 105 miles of fence and 18 cattlegards, construction

35
