<br />L~ ~ i;' <br /> <br />The Bureau of Reclamation is responsible for constructing, <br /> <br />operatinn, and f.1uintnining the Fryingpan-Arknnsns Project. <br /> <br /> <br />Construction began in th~ sumner of 1964 with the award of the <br /> <br /> <br />contract for Ruedi Dam, one of the Project's najor features. <br /> <br /> <br />Since then, other contracts as permitted by appropriation of <br /> <br />funds have been awarded. Major fe.atures of the Fryingpan- <br /> <br />Arkansas Project completed to date include Ruedi Dam and Reser- <br /> <br />voir, Sugar Loaf Dam and Turquoise Lake Enlargement, Charles <br /> <br />H. Boustead, Chapman, and South Fork Tunnels and Diversion <br /> <br />Ivorks. The Fryingpan-Arkansas Project is approximately 36 <br /> <br />percent complete based on expenditures of January 1, 1972. <br /> <br />Present work schedules call for completion of the Fryinp,pan- <br /> <br />Arkansas Project in 1978. <br /> <br />The Southeastern Colorado '-Jater Conserv"ncy District has con- <br /> <br />tracted with the United States to repay the reimbursable shaTe <br /> <br />of the costs allocated to irri~ation and municipal water functions. <br /> <br />The District extends alon~ the Arkansas River fron Buena Vista to <br /> <br />Lamar and along Fountain Creek fron Colorado Sprinqs to Pueblo. <br /> <br />2.
