Flood control regulatIons for Hoover <br />Dam are being updated and revised based on <br />findings of a Joint study by the Bureau of <br />Reclamation (Reclamation) and the Army <br />Corps of Engineers (Corps) with consultation <br />and advice of State and loca/lnterests. <br /> <br />A final report which summarizes the study <br />findings and recommends a new flood control <br />operation plan for Hoover Dam Is scheduled <br />for release In 1983. Subsequent to approval of <br />the report, the new flood control regulatlons <br />for Hoover Dam wltl be formally promulgated. <br />Flood control storage space will be maintained <br />In Lake Mead as stipulated In the Field <br />Working Agreement between Rec\amatlon <br />and the Corps for flood control operation of <br />Hoover Dam and Lake Mead. These <br />Btlpulated regulations establish releases In a <br />manner that maximizes public benefits In the <br />United States with reasonable consideration <br />for cQodltlonsln Mexico. <br /> <br /> <br />Aqueduct pavIng. <br /> <br />Local flood control protection was provided by <br />the reservoirs within the basin durIng water <br />year 1982, which received greater total <br />precipitation than during normal years. Total <br />Colorado River reservoir system storage at the <br />start of water year 1982 was approximately <br />4g.6 million aore.feet and about 54,0 million <br />acre-feet at the end of the water year I <br />representing 8 4.4 million acre-feet decrease <br />in total remaining available reservoir space. <br /> <br />In addition to the malnstem structures, Alamo <br />Dam an the Blli Williams River, and Painted <br />Rook Dam an the Gila River (both In Ihel.ower <br />Basin) received flood Inflow during winter <br />months. Painted Rock and Alamo Reservoirs <br />are scheduled to be operated at minimum <br />flood control levels during 1983. <br /> <br />23 <br />
