Six alternatives are considered in this FEIS
and present different arrangements of lift locations, ski terrain, on-mountain
support facilities, summer uses, and associated off-site private land
development. The alternatives include: 1) a "No Action" alternative; 2) the
permittee's proposed action (Alternative G); 3) the Forest Service Preferred
(Alternative F); 4) improvements within the currently developed portion of the
permit area only (Alternative B); 5) improvements within the currently developed
portion of the permit area with development of a second portal limited to transit
(Alternative H); and 6) a maximum development scenario for both the currently
developed portion of the permit area and expansion within the currently
undeveloped, Burnt Mountain, portion of the permit area (Alternative E) .

This document discusses the Purpose and Need of the proposed action, as well as
the potential effects of implementing each alternative, and provides a
description of cumulative impacts and required and proposed mitigation measures,

A Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) was released for public comment in
May, 1993. Over 1,840 responses were received. A summary of those comments and
the agency response is included in the FEIS.
