This brochure sets forth
the review made pursuant to the Multiple Use-Sustained Yield Act
of June 12, 1960, and the Wilderness Act of September 3, 1964.

A public hearing record will be compiled between January 11 and
February 15, 1974. The record will be open to receive written and
oral comments on the proposal. Persons wishing to express their
views on these or other management proposals are invited to submit
written statements before February 15, 1974, to the Regional Forester,
Building B5, Denver Federal Center, Denver, Colorado 80225. Oral
statements will also be taken beginning at 9 a.m. Friday, January 11,
1974, at the Ouray High School gymnasium, Ouray, Colorado, and con-
tinuing at 9 a.m. on January 12, 1974, at the Ramada Inn, 718 Horizon
Drive, Grand Junction, Colorado. The purpose of this public hearing
record is to set forth testimony on management possibilities and the
subsequent formulation of recormlendations for the management of the
Uncompahgre and Wilson Mountains Primitive Areas and contiguous
lands.

The hearing record will be considered in formulating the recommenda-
tions of the Secretary of Agriculture to the President and to Congress.

The review of the Uncompahgre and Wilson Mountains Primitive Areas
and contiguous lands identified four representative management alter-
natives which are considered feasible and practical. These are
described in this brochure. The management proposals reflect repre-
sentative management arrangements. They have been identified to
facilitate your analysis and stimulate thinking as to modifications
and other alternatives. Other management alternatives mentioned in
the brochure were discarded as not being feasible or practical. You
may have others you wish to enter into the Record for consideration.
