General Statement Conoeming the Chalk Creek Arew.

A .preliminary field investigation of the Chalk Creek
Area was made Maroh 7~8, 1941 with Thos, L. Steele, Hydraulic
Engineer with the Water Utilization Seotion of the Bureau Qf'

AgricultursJ. EoonQlllios. Purpose of the trip was to seoure in_

formation relative to whether or not the Bureau of Agrioultural

EoonQlllios would be justified in making II. more detailed study of

the area.

Those interviewed while on the trip were H. R. Sohmid,

oounty agent, C. H. Striokland, FSA snpervisar, J. A. Burnett,

water oommissioner, IUld T. J. Ehrhart, ranoher. A brief reoon-

uissanoe was made of the landlF irrigated from Chalk Creek and of'

the proposed dam site on the upper Chalk Creek watershed,

Based upon this investigation and after a brief' study

of' available information, the following oonolusions are presented

herewith oonoeming the request by of'fioials of Chaffee County for

an investigation of the Chalk Creek areal
