<br /> <br />To preserve and enhance the quality of <br />life through planning, construction, opera- <br />tion and managemenf of the Colorado <br />River Storage Projecl and participating <br />projects, social assessment has become <br />an integral part ot the Bureau of Recla- <br />mation program. Consideration of social <br />eftects begins early In the planning <br />stages of a project. <br /> <br />In addition fo the social effects of <br />economic and employment opportunities <br />provided througll Irrigation, power genera- <br />tion and industrial water, the development <br />of land and water for muniCipal, recre- <br />ation, and fish and wildlife purposes <br />also affects people in the project area. <br /> <br />Preservation and enhancement ot the at- <br />fected population.s social well-being are <br />both emphasized in the social assess- <br />ment process <br /> <br />Major studies as part of the Central Utah <br />ProJeds Bonneville Unit, Irrrgalion and <br />Drainage System were initiated. Studies <br />were also Initiated on the Lower Gun- <br />nison North Fork salinity controi unit of <br />the Colorado River Water Quality Im- <br />provement Program (CRWOIP) <br /> <br />Major social, economic, and demographic <br />studies continued on the Lower Gunnison <br />Winter Water, Price-San Rafael, Paradox, <br />and Dirty Devil salinity control units of the <br />CRWOIP <br /> <br />Studies on the Meeker Dome, Uinta <br />BaSin, Glenwood-Dotsero Springs, Grarld <br />Valley II, salinity control units of tile <br />CRWOIP were completed <br /> <br />A Unique monitoring study on the Dolores <br />Project construction program was com- <br />pleted. ThiS study tested procedures for <br />impact projection and effect analysis <br />while providing the Cortez Projects Office <br />an enhanced data base for continued <br />public involvement. <br /> <br />Many of these studies utilize the Eco- <br />nomic and Demographic Program <br />(SEDAP) and the Multi-Attribute Trade-off <br />System (MATS) to place economic and <br />demographic present and Juture condi- <br />tions. with and Without the proposed pro- <br />jects, Into perspective Subjective non- <br /> <br />statistical effects are analyzed using <br />mutually enhancing social assessment <br />and public involvement techniques in all <br />project Investigations. <br /> <br />Although these studies are conducted by <br />regional and project office personnel, <br />close coordination is maintained with the <br />project area's affected population.
