Rim Basin
Reservoir would be created in a natural basin about
800 feet above Dominguez Reservoir on the east
canyon rim about 9 miles upstream from Dominguez
Dam. Rim Basin Dam would he a horses"hoe-shaped
structure with an embankment of zoned earthfill.
Rim Basin Reservoir would serve 8S farebay and
Dominguez Reservoir the' afterbay for -the 500 HW
pumpback peak-demand Rim Bas"ln Powerplant to be
located in the canyon wall adjacent to the lower
impoundment.

With either plan a multilevel outlet works would be
built at Dominguez Dam to pennit control of
downstream water temperature, thus maintaining
native fish habitat. Some riparian lands would be
acquired snd developed upstream, -from Dominguez
Reservoir to Roubideau Creek and downstream from
the dam to the Redlands Power Canal Diversion Dam.
In either plan, backwater areas and nesting
struc tures would he developed for fish and wild-
Life, and wildlife zoning would be established
around portions of the reservoir for the protection
of certain species such as the hald eagle.

Muncipal and industrial water from _the project
(ultimate capacity 74 cfs) would help meet the
needs of anticipated population increase in the
Grand Valley area and would be provided in either
plan.

M&I water supply (acre-feet)
Depletion (acre-feet)
Hydroelectric power
Pumpback peaking (kW)
Power on the river (kW)
Features, sizes, capacities, cost
Dominguez Dam & Res.
Capacity (sere-feet)
Dam height (feet)
Surface area (acres)
Rim Basin Dan & Res.
Capacity (acre-feet)
Darn height (feet)
Surface (acres)
Dominguez M&I pipeline (mi & cfs)
Land purchased for mitigation (acres)
Estimated total project cost (January 1981)
Benefit-cost ratio

Attractive recreational and fishing opportunlt1.eS
would be expected since the maximum reservoir
fluctuation would be limited to ahout 20 feet in
the Peaking Power Plan and 61 feet in the M&I Plan.
Recreational facilities would be provided at
several sites on Dominguez Reservoir, while picnic
and rafting facilities would be developed on the
river 'downstream. A visitor center/museum would he
constructed to explain the project and interpret
and display cultural resources of the area.

Construction of the reservoir would' necessitate
relocation of the Denver and Rio Grande Western
Railroad to a new alinement roughly parallel to
U.S. Highway 50 between Whitewater and Delta in
both plans. With Plan 4, a small portion of U.S.
Highway 50 would be relocated around the Kannah
Creek arm of the reservoir.

Transmission lines would be constructed from the
powerplant(s) to the switchyard. Existing trans-
mission systems would he used to transmit the power
to Colorado River Storage Project delivery points.
The_ Dep,artment of Energy Western Area Power
Administration would be responsible for transmis-
sion and marketing of power.

The two plans are summarized below.

Peaking
Powe r PI an
21,200
35,600

Municipal &
Industrial
Water Plan
221,200
250,900

500,000
18,000

36,000

302,000
190
5,000

700.400
240
8,400

9,900
230
145
4.1-74
2,677
$641.111.000
2.01: 1

4.1-74
9,075
$374,809,000
1. \7, 1
