)\
p-
i

.

.

Other alternatives considered included: (A) designation of 83 miles of
river corridor to the National Wild and Scenic Rivers System, (B)
designation of 39 miles of the river corridor, (C) no action
(continuation of current multiple-use management as specified in the
Forest Plan), (D) development of potential water and hydropower
facilities with no designation to the National Wild and Scenic Rivers
System, and {G) development of potential water and hydropower facilities
and designation of 56 miles.

The segments recommended for designation possess no feasible water
development sites. The effects of designation on timber and
agricultural resources would be negligible. Potential oil and gas
production would not be affected. Approximately 34 miles of the river
corridor recommended for designation is in National Park or National
Forest designated wilderness areas. Alternative F itself provides the
mitigation to avoid environmental harm.

The natural, scenic, and recreational qualities of the Cache la Poudre
River are unique and irreplaceable resources. We conclude that the best
use of the proposed river segments and the immediate environment would
be served by designation as a component of the National Wild and Scenic
Rivers System.

Alternatives A and F are environmentally preferable..

Twenty-one miles of the main stem of the Cache la Poudre River are not
recommended for Wild and Scenic River designation. Predominance of
private ownership and potential for future water resource development
have prompted this decision.

oZ~

N R.
