C. <br /> <br />April 17; 1970 <br /> <br />Mr. Chairman and Disting~ished congressmen: <br /> <br />The NarroWS Project was first authorized by the Congress <br /> <br />in 1946. It has not yet been constructed. Since the reasons for <br /> <br />constructing the project are now even more compelling than they were <br /> <br />in 1946, I have been anxious for some time to present the official <br /> <br />views of the State of Colorado on this project in this committee room. <br /> <br />Having some knowledge of the multitude of the problems with which this <br /> <br />subcommittee must deal, I most certainly appreciate the committee ',s <br /> <br />attention to thb matter at this time. <br /> <br />Colorado finds itself in a position today that almost fifty <br /> <br />percent of its total surface water supplies have been allocated to <br /> <br />other states through interstate COmpacts and federal court decisions, <br /> <br />or in the case of the Republic of Mexico, through international treaty. <br /> <br />Our needs for additional water supplies constantly increase, as they <br /> <br />o <br /> <br />~...__,'&...",d. <br />
