<br />I. <br /> <br />There are earthen wing dams on either side of the main dam. The north <br />wing dam is 3,880 feet long, connecting to the earth fill structure of the <br />main dam at the north abutment. The south wing dam is 5,807 feet <br />long and connects to the south end of the concrete structure of the <br />main dam. A bituminous-sur1aced roadway, 21 feet wide, extends along <br />the crest of the north wing dam. main dam, and south wing dam. The <br />overall length of the structure is 2.6. miles. An appropriate sign perpetuates this bit of <br />Americana for posterity. <br /> <br />7. Cooperative Studies and Activities <br /> <br />(a) Article VIII G (1) of Arkansas River Compact requires the <br />Administration to cooperate with the Chief Official of each <br />of the states of Colorado and Kansas charged with the <br />administration of water rights in their respective States, and <br />with the Federal agencies in systematically determining and <br />correlating the facts pertaining to the flow and dil/ersion of <br />the water of the Arkansas River and to the operation and <br />siltation of John Martin Reservoir and other related <br />structures. Article VIII G (2) requests the Director of the <br />United States Geological Survey. the Commissioner of the <br />United States Bureau of Reclamation, and the Chief of the <br />Engineers. United States Army, to cooperate and <br />collaborate with the Administration and with appropriate <br />State officials in such determinations and correlations of <br />stream flow and related data. Under the By-Laws of the <br />Administration, these cooperative studies and activities are <br />assigned to the Engineering Committee of the <br />Administration. <br />(b) During the year covered by thi~ report the Administration <br />has received excellent cooperation from all agencies <br />referred to in the foregoing provisions of the Compact.
