Results of lining and combining canal sections will
reduce the amount of seepage emanating from canals contributing to sa-
linity in the McElmo Creek Drainage and the Colorado River. The plan's
net effect will be to reduce canal seepage by 50 percent and salinity
by 21 percent, 6,000 acre-feet and 24,000 tons (7,398,000 cubic meters
and 21,800 metric tons), resepectively. Reduction in salinity measured
at Imperial Dam, California will amount to 2.6 mg/L. The project cost
is $23,167,000 with an annual cost effectiveness of $739,000/mg/L.
The Bureau of Reclamation is currently completing its planning re-
port for the project and will proceed into preconstruction planning
when funds become available to collect design data. Preconstruction
planning will require three years to complete and construction will re-
quire an additional three years.

-

001565

8

Roche and Davison
