Potassium ~ill be added at the rate of one-fourth pound per tree. Though
~ ~ there is an abundance of potassium in these soils it doesn't seem to be available
C,;t to the trees. The ~t:r.y leaf samples should sho...' us about 2.5% potassium.
f\..
~... Phosphorous seems to be holding at the lo...er limit of the July standard.
With the addition of about one-eighth of a pound of phosphorous per tree the
May leaf sample should show .3\ or more. If the June leaf samples show excess
nitrogen content small amounts (.05 to .10 Ib/tree) will be added to reduce
the nitrogen. Caution must be used in the use of phosphorous toward the
end of the season for an excess of phosphorous will bring the fruit to
maturity too rapidly.

Iron will be added through the system at the rate of one 5# bag of
Iron Sequestrene 138 each ...eek until mid July. :inc and manganese will be
added a gallon each at the same time to offset the effect of iron addition.
Iron ....ill not exceed the 120 p.p.m. level in anyone leaf sample. If it
does a couple of weekly treatments will be omitted.

...

..~
,

\l!"='

'l.., .....,~.. .~.
,~, 4A:,'
" ""'..
"

....

.

Above is a picture of the pump shut off device installed at the Davis
place. Several times when the ditch was turned off during the season it
worked very well. This is an important feature because the five H.P. motor
didn't have a thermal switch to protect it.

This year .....e installed some salini t)" sensors along the drip lines and also
...here the trees were furrow irrigated. The Agricultural Research Service is a
partner in this study and they have only started to analyse the data. A fe...
preliminary observations can be made from the weekly readings. They are:

1. Furro~ Irrigation tends to drive the salts in toward the
tree line.

2. Readings were signi ficant 1)' higher under the Furro....' Irrigation.

- 8 -
