In connection with preparaUon ot' data. for Rouse DocU1llflnt 308, the <br />totlil watershed below Fort Smith, Arkansas, was plan:l.metered and the <br />partial areas were plan:l.metered and adjusted so that a summation of <br />the partial areas checked the total 21rea. Subsequen'c to the "308" <br />report, add:l.tiolllll areas were determined as required or areas were <br />redetermined where better JlI!1pS were available by plan:l.metering the <br />watershed boundaries. <br /> <br />b. Exceptions to the above procedure are the Petit Jean at Blue Mountain <br />Dam, Waveland, Dutch Creek, Danville, Centervil.le, pontoonand Waltreak, <br />Galla Creek and the South Fourche La Fave River at Hollis g~e and at <br />the mouth. The draillllge areas for these locations were determined by <br />the procedure described for 'chs White River Basin. <br /> <br />5. Tabulated breakdown of areas, as indicated in par~raph 2 above, are given <br />in following table form, pagesl to 65, inclusive. <br /> <br />GEromAL INFORMATION AS TO 'mE DE'l'ERMINATION <br />OF RIVER MILEAGES SlIOWN <br /> <br />River mile~es were determined from the latest available Corps of <br />Engineers survey JlI!1pS of the streams, supplemented by surveys for reser- <br />voir areas. If streaJll or reservoir survey JlI!1pS were not available, then <br />mile~es were cOIIqliled from the latest published maps, such as those <br />prepareq. by the U. S. Geological Survey, Mississippi River Commission, <br />National Forest Service, Bureau of Soils, -U.S.D.A., etc. <br /> <br />, <br />As a matter of specific information the source of certain mile~es <br />is as follows. <br /> <br />(1) On the Main Stem of the Arkansas River old mileages frpm the <br />"308" report were used upstrea.m from the Kansas-Oklahoma State <br />line. New mileages were used in the lower reach of the river, <br />which mileages were determined by measuring along a line mid- <br />wa;y between banks on the 1940.111 Survey Maps of the Arkansas <br />River report prepared by the Corps of Engineers.
