S. Census data to the projected farm population
for the Platte River Subregion (Missouri River Basin Framework Study)
for the' ;periods 1980 and 2000. Farm population in Boulder County should
be relatively small by year 2000 when compared to the total projection
for the county. The ultimate farm population and acreage is dependent
upon the extent and pattern of urbanization that will occur in the
future and upon continuing agricultural technology, which is increas-
ing farm size and reducing farm numbers.

Projections for the component "other nonfarm" is a residual
after deducting the urban and farm population estimates from the
projected total for Boulder County. This residual should be treated
as an amount for future nonfarm population in all existing towns,
connnunities, outlying areas, and possibly new communities heretofore
not in existenee, some of which could be created by "spillover" from
Denver and Boulder. It is assumed, however, that most of this popula-
tion growth will occur in the area of the Longmont-Boulder-Broomfield
triangle.

The study made by the Inter-County Regional Planning Connnission
excluded Longmont as part of the Denver Metropolitan Area. However,
the Connnission's projections for the county apparently included an
amount for Longmont, but an independent projection for the city was
not made. For this report, Longmont is included as part of ,the urban
component, and projections are based on graphic analysis and extrapolatiolll
of past trends.

.

31

j~. ~

n"C ,,~,;:" ,,~"" ,"',~,"
