SUMMARY

Reach 3 of the Alpine Aqueduct and Reach 4 of the Jordan Aqueduct are
complete with the exception of some landscaping and cleanup activities.
Reach 2 of the Alpine Aqueduct is scheduled for completion during 1987.
Facilities have also been constructed at the mouth of Provo Canyon to
provide the capability of exchanging water between the Salt Lake Aqueduct
(constructed in 1951 as part of the Provo River Project) and the Jordan
Aqueduct. This exchange provides the M&I System the capability of being
used in harmony with the features of the Provo River Project to deliver
water to both the east and west sides of Jordan Valley as needs require.

Jordanelle Dam and associated road relocations are undergoing spe-
cifications design. A brief outline of the construction schedule for
these remaining activities is shown in the following table.

Construction

schedu le
Beginning
Spring 1987
Spring 1987

Activity
Acquisition of rights-of-way
Relocate U.S. Highway 40
Final concrete surfacing
Construct county road
Relocate U.S. Highway 189
Construct Jordanelle Dam
Stage rl./ Summer 1987 Summer 1989
Sta e II]) Fall 1989 S rin 1992
1 Stage I will consist of excavation in the dam abutments located
on the right and left of existing Highway 40 by stripping surface mate-
rial down to bedrock, initiating embankment construction in the flood
plain area of the dam, and processing and stockpiling sand and gravel
filter materials for both Stage I and Stage II.
2/ Stage II will constitute placement of the remaining dam mate-
rials :-

Fall 1987
Fall 1987

Complete
Spring 1990
Fall 1989
Fall 1991
Fall 1989
Fall 1989

Need for Project Modifications

Activities in the preceding update do not constitute significant
modifications to the project requiring additional NEPA compliance.

The need for significant project modifications that do require NEPA
compliance are centered in six ba~ic areas: changing the road reloca-
tions to accommodate public safety concerns; changing the location of
the outlet works based on recent geologic findings; modifying the reser-
voir management boundary to accommodate the'proposed road relocations and
to accommodate proposed actions to preserve water quality in the poten-
tial Jordanelle Reservoir; modifying the fishery mitigation/recreation
plan for the Provo River below Jordanelle Dam in order for Reclamation
to meet its mitigation commitments and in response to local concerns;
adjusting the wildlife mitigation plan as a result of expected impacts
of the above proposed modifications; and developing a plan to mitigate
wetland and riparian habitat losses (not included in the FES).

S-6
