Denver Water. and the Colorado River Water Conservation District "CRWCD" to <br />investigate alternatives for meeting water supply needs of the South Denver Metropolitan Area <br />('"South Metro Area") through the year 2050. These alternatives include the continued use of <br />Denver Basin ground water, bener management of existing resources. and importation of <br />additional renewable water supplies through the "conjunctive use" of surface water and ground <br />water supplies. Funding of the study was provided primarily through these study participants. <br />with contributions from Douglas County and the Colorado Water Conservation Board. The <br />majority of the funding was provided by the DC\VRA Participants. including the Centennial <br />Water and Sanitation District C"Centennial Water"), the TO\"'lI of Castle Rock ("Castle Rock"), <br />the East Cherry Creek Valley Waler and Sanitation District ("ECCV"). the Arapahoe County <br />Water and Wastewater Authority ('"ACWW A"). the Cottonwood Water and Sanitation District <br />r-Cottonwood"), the Stonegate t-.1etropolitan District ('"Stonegate"). the Denver Southeast <br />Suburban Water and Sanitation District ("Pinery"), the Inverness Water and Sanitation District <br />("'Inverness"). the Meridian Metropolitan District ("Meridian"), the Roxborough Park <br />Metropolitan District ("Roxborough"), and the Castle Pines North Metropolitan District ('"Castle <br />Pines North"). <br /> <br />This study wa.. prepared pursuant to an agreement between the DCWRA Participants, Denver <br />Water and the CRWCD. These parties to the agreement prepared the scope of '....ork for the <br />study. included as Appendix 1. The scope of work was interpreted. redefined and revised by the <br />Study Board during the course of the study, but the intent and purpose of the study remains as <br />presented in the original document. <br /> <br />1.2 Background <br /> <br />The Study Area includes the service areas of the public water providers located in the north half <br />of Douglas County from and including the TO\m of Castle Rock. north to the Douglas <br />County/Arapahoe Count)' bound3l)'. excepting a large portion of the TO\\lI of Parker. Also <br />included is much of the urbanized portion of Arapahoe County located east of 1-25. The Study <br />Area is sho\\n on Figure 1.1. The principal development areas include Highlands Ranch. a large <br />planned development located in nonhwestem Douglas County. the To\'.n of Castle Rock. located <br />in central Douglas County, the northern JXJnions of the TO\'on of Parker. located in northeastern <br />Douglas County. and a large JXJrtion of the City of Centennial. in Arapahoe County. Other <br />unincorporated areas include the Roxborough. Castle Pines North and Pinery developments. as <br />well as ponions of the Stonegate. Cottonwood. ACWW A. and the ECCV Districts. The Study <br />Area has a current population of approximately 179.000. It is an area that has developed rapidly <br />o....er the last two decades and is expected to continue rapid growth through the year 2050.
