N
W
00
<=>

of 1972. Of the total increase, 6.0 million acre-feet occurred
in the Upper Basin and 2.8 million acre-feet in the Lower Basin.
The 1977 water year storage in the Colorado River System is
about 5.7 maf less than the 1976 value.

Historical Uses

Estimated historical upper and Lower Basin uses for the
calendar years 1973 through 1976 are shown on Table 3.

Salinity at Monitoring Stations

Salinities at monitoring stations below Hoover Dam for
the years 1973, 1974, 1975, and 1976 are shown on Table 4.
These values are all less than the 1972 numeric criteria.
These decreases in salinities are considered to be primarily
due to the water supply conditions and the increase in reser-
voir storage that have occurred since 1972. Because of the
time lag in the river system, _the impact of the high flows
of 1973 and 1975 are still being reflected at the three stations
in the lower mains tern where standards have been established.

Salinity Control Actions

The Bureau of Reclamation-is continuing its preparation
of Definite Plan Reports (DPR) on three of the four projects
authori~ed in P.L. 93-320: Grand Valley Unit, Paradox Valley
Unit, and Las Vegas Wash Unit. Due to the high estimated
coetpeX' ton of salt: removed, -. the construction of Crystal
Geyser has been deferred. The DPR for the Paradox Valley is
to be completed by January 1978. A total of 18 test wells
have been drilled and pumping tests conducted. These wells,
if suitable, will be incorporated into the permanent well
field as necessary. The Las Vegas Unit DPRhas been completed
and it is anticipated that it will be released by January 1978.

5

k:i.

!
'.; _ .k :1<ij
