University of Nevada, Ren

!

FOREWORD

The Nevada Agricultural Statistics Service provides
data users with unbiased statistics about the state's
agricultural industry. Cash receipts from the sale of
crops, livestock and livestock products contributed
$333.4 million to the state's economy in 1990. Cattle
. and calves are the most important commodity, tradi-
tionally pro~iding over half of the total receipts. The state-federal statistical program
has continued to strive for data quality and service. We see new challenges to
agriculture's' traditional use of land, water and other resources as we proceed into
the 1990's. . Agriculture will be required to justify it's claim to these resources with
facts and filllures. We also see rapid expansion of genetic engineering and other
biotechnology to increase productivity and solve pest and disease problems.
Unbiased statistics will be needed to measure and evaluate change.

A big "THANK YOU" goes to our farmers, ranchers and agri-businessmen who
voluntarily answer survey questionnaires to provide input to this and other reports.
Thanks also ,to our talented office staff, field and telephone interviewers who are
dedicated to providing you with high quality, timely information.

c:;, ;~.~

C.R.
