o
,:")
(.t,)
N
--1
-:l

BOB MILLER
Governor

STATE Of NEVADA
EXECUTIVE CHAMBER

Carson City, Nevada 89710

To The people Of Nevada:

, Despite moving into a fifth year of drought, Nevada
agricul ture continues to move forward. However, the uncer-
tainties :of 1991 already remind us of the challenges Nevada
agriculture will continue to face as we embrace a new decade.

Profitable agriculture will depend heavily on: the
responsible use of our planet's resources. To Nevada farmers
and rancQers this means lean and efficient agricultural
productio~r an increased emphasis on sustainable agriculture and
the develqpment of alternative uses of our agricultural products.

\Research is already opening doors for products that are
not only environmentally sound, but also profitable. Agricul-
tural CORlrPodi ties can reduce our dependence on foreign oil
through etihano1 production and provide biodegradable plastics
from corn ~nd potato starch. These are just a few examples.

~s we develop efficient sustainable agricultural
methods an'p. alternative product uses throughout this decade,
Nevada agriculture will thrive. Our farmers and ranchers will
profit, and our precious resources will be sustained.

Sincerely,

$/ 4'~

BOB MILLER
Governor

(0).34J2
