<br />(2) A number of design refinements or changes to Project features and operation <br />since the 1980 FES are relevant to environmental concerns. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />(3) Other new information relevant to environmental concerns has become known <br />since the 1980 FES. The information is related to changes in environmental <br />resources. This includes: <br /> <br />. Information regarding potential Project effects on threatened or endangered <br />species, specifically the Colorado squawfish, razorback sucker, bald eagle, <br />and southwestern willow flycatcher <br /> <br />. Changes in the trout fishery of the Animas River downstream from the <br />proposed Durango Pumping Plant <br /> <br />· Additional information regarding the Project's effect on native fish <br />populations and habitat in southwestern Colorado and northwestern New <br />Mexico <br /> <br />. Growth of river-related water sports activities and uses, primarily rafting <br />and kayaking (with its associated economic effect), on the Animas and San <br />Juan Rivers since 1980 <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Additional information related to the effect of the Project on water quality <br />in Project reservoirs, groundwater, irrigation return flows, and affected <br />rivers <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. Changes in elk populations in the Project area since 1980, especially those <br />using the Ridges Basin area where Ridges Basin Dam and Reservoir would <br />be constructed <br /> <br />. Additional information, legislation, and regulations regarding cultural <br />resources in the Project area <br /> <br />. New information regarding wetland and riparian areas adjacent to the <br />Animas, La Plata, and Mancos Rivers and other wetland and riparian <br />habitats in the Proj ect area <br /> <br />. Potential eligibility of the lower San Juan River and upper Animas River to <br />be designated as wild and scenic rivers. These segments of the rivers were <br />placed on the Nationwide Rivers Inventory, prepared by the National Park <br />Service in 1982 <br /> <br />(4) New laws enacted since the 1980 FES require investigations of Project lands to <br />determine the potential for toxic or hazardous irrigation return flows. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />17 <br />
