However ,one <br />Colorado River reach in <br />the lower basin-Davis <br />Dam to Topock Marsh- <br />was deleted due to the lack <br />of biological importance to <br />the bony tail chub. <br />Of considerable signifi- <br />cance was the service's <br />determination that eco- <br />nomic impacts resulting <br />from endangered species <br />listing are not to be con. <br />sidered during critical <br />habitat designation. It <br />anticipates substantial <br />recovery of the species <br />over the next 10 years. <br /> <br />UPPER BASIN <br />RECOVERY PROGRAM <br />The recovery program for <br />the endangered fishes in <br />the upper basin is a I5-year, <br />multiparty effort designed <br />to recover these fish popu- <br />lations while allowing <br />water development to pro- <br />ceed in Wyoming, Utah <br />and Colorado. As with <br />many other cooperative <br />efforts, the recovery pro- <br />gram was born of conflict. <br />In 1984, the U.S. Fish and <br />Wildlife Service convened <br />a committee to resolve the <br />inherent conflict between <br />protection of the endan- <br />gered fish and the need for <br />future water development. <br />A steering committee was <br />formed with representa- <br />tives of federal and state <br />water development and <br />wildlife management agen- <br />cies, water users and envi- <br />ronmental organizations. <br />Technical subcommittees <br />also were formed to <br /> <br />CRWUA <br /> <br /> <br />.,. <br /> <br />From top: bony tail chub, humpback chub, Colorado sQuawfish, razorback sucker <br />
