The actual future of these proposed dams is somewhat in doubt
at this time. In Januar~. 1973, the National Park Service
officially opposed the construction of the Savory-Pothook Dam
on an upper tributary of the Yampa River. The National Park
Service will oppose similar projects which would degrade or alter
the quality .of water flowing through the monument.

'.

..

Colorado Highway 318 has been paved from Maybell northwestward
for 41 miles. This road,is now being paved further to the
northwest and eventually will be paved all the way to Green
River', Wyoming to improve travel from U.S. Righway 40 in Colorado
to I-80 in Wyoming. This will facilitate trsvel to the Gates
of Lodore and will result in higher visitation.

I

1240

11
