I hope for the bendit of Nevada, t.,!at isn't true.

CHAmMAN~

The Las 'lel~as pI'ojeci i.s to be

",

largely a reservoi.r project, water pumpIng project.

MR. SMITH: The small project I was speaking

of would be a direct diversion from Davis Dam, probably gravity flow,

for about 50% of it, and 50% of it would be water that would have to be

pumped to a higher level.

CHAIRMAN; That's the Fort Mojave project.

MR, SMITH; Yes. Possibly, it would be advisable to

have the statement as presented by Mr. Shaw and Mr. Matthew incorporated

in your Item No.4 in such a manner that it would be clear in the minds of

Nevada interests.

..

MR. MATTHEW~

The California comments include a tabulation

showing the estimated water requirements of existing and authorized

projects in the Lower Basin, which includes the item [or Nevada, Utah and

New Mexico, of 440,000 acre feet. That includes the 300,000 for Nevada,

and 140,000 which is estimated by the Bureau of Reclamation [or the

eldsting projects, with some posllible expansion in Utah and New Mexico

in the Lowe):' Basin, so that the State's comments are clear in that

respect, that the Nevada contract is CDnsidered an existing commitment.

MR. SMITH:

As has been expressed here, Nevada is

very much interested in joining with the Colorado River Basin States

in any move leading to the development o[ power sites on the Lower River.

That would greatly benefit all of us, and in no way depletes the water

supply. The water has to come downstream, and it may as well turn wheels.

-d,

I

~'

,~
