!''''-
C'"
M
,...j

~....
c:;.,

'The state Engineer has made demands based upon Rio Grande

Operating Criteria to satis.fy Colorado's commitment at Lobatos.

Demands on the. conejos from 196.8 through 1975 have totaled

172,800 acre-feet. This is calculated by comparing the departures

.at Los Sauces for this period with those of the 1950-1967 period.

A similar comparison for the Rio Grande yields a total of 491,200

acre-feet for the 8-year period.

From 1968 through 1975, the Rio Grande Compact indebted.ness

has been reduced by 219,200 acre-f.eet, 80,000 acre-feet of which was

due to the 10,000 acre-foot per year credit at Lobatos and 139,200

acre-feet which was not.

CONCLUSIONS

1. Deliveries a.t Los Sauces on the Conejos River declined

immediately after the Compact study period, increased more or less

steadily through. 1949, then leveled off at an average annual depar-

turefor the 1950-1967 period of -32,800 acre-feet from the compact

schedule and -34,4.00 acre-feet from the Compact. study periOd.

2. Overdelivery departures for the "Rio Grande less conejos

River" schedule were significantly positive from 1938 to 1949.

Return flows from diversions from underground tributaries to the

conejos. River in the Rio Grande area ~ndoubtedly contributed to

these overdeliveries. 'These diversions also contributed to under-

delivery of the conejos River at Los Sauces.

-8-
