INTRODUCTION

Many water temperature observations in Kansas, made in conjunction
with discharge measurements by the U.S. Geological Survey, have never
been published, Water temperature observations at the time of discharge
measurements were first obtained at three gaging stations during 1948
and observations were obtained at 65 stations during 1949. During 1950-72,
the collection of data increased to about 240 stations.

The purpose of this report is to present and summarize the water temperature
data collected during the period of record through September 1972. The
data are presented in tabular and graphical form for current and dis-
continued regular gaging stations and for some partial record stations.
Data collected during a single season, or that included fewer than ten
observations, are not reported. This report includes data for 210
stations. Beginning with the 1973 water year, all temperature data
collected during the year are published in Water Resources Data for
Kansas, Part 2, Water Quality Records.

.

2
