<br />OU1938 <br />. ... .. <br /> <br />IN MEMORIAM <br /> <br />JUDGE CLIFFORD H. STONE DIES <br /> <br />Judge Clifford H. Stone, for fifteen years a Director of <br />the National Reclamation Association from Colorado, passed away <br />on October 21 at New Orleans where he had gone to represent <br />his state at an important water meeting. <br /> <br />Judge Stone was a man of great wisdom, indefatigable <br />energy, utter consecration to the cause of Reclamatio,n and a <br />true friend of the West. <br /> <br />Notable milestones in the Progress of Reclamation over <br />the years which may be attributed in large measure to the un- <br />tiring efforts of Judge Stone include: Publication of the <br />N. R. A. Conunittee Report, "The Preservation of the Integrity <br />of State Water Laws", the defeat of the Valley authorities, <br />the advancement of the Interstate COl!lpact Idea, (Colorado has <br />completed more Interst~te Compacts than any other state in <br />the llest), The Hayden-O I Mahoney Amendment, The Reclamation Pro- <br />ject Act ?f 1939, The O'!&ihoney-Milliken Amendment to the 1944 <br />Flood Control Act, the ratification of the Mexican Water Treaty <br />of 1944, and many others. <br /> <br />Excerpt From Long Beach Convention <br /> <br />"NOVl, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the National Recla- <br />mation Association that the Association and the cause of de- <br />velopment, conservation, and utilization of western water re- <br />sources have suffered an irreparable 1055 through the death <br />of Judge Stone. His sage advice, inexhaustible patience, and <br />kindly demeanor will be missed in the deliberations of the <br />Association.
