<br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />-:") <br /> <br />COLOR,\DO DEVELOPMENT COMPLETION REPORT <br /> <br />~ <br />-tQ-- ----- ------GAREY--oAM -FISH-AND-GAJVIE-ii'l"NAG EMEN Ti\RElI--- <br />~ ~--=="-'~' ..=--- --- <br /> <br />~ PROJECT FW-5-D-1 <br /> <br />JULY I, 1957 to SEPTEMBER 30, 1958. <br /> <br />Carey Dam is an existing earth-fill dam about 3/4 of a mile in length located <br />approximately 22 miles south of Las Animas in Bent County. The dam was built <br />40 to 50 years ago but was apparently abandoned within a short time. In the . <br />interim period there had been no maintenance or any kind as indicated by several <br />low spots along the crest of the nil and erosion present on the downstream face <br />of the dam. Also, the upstream side of the dam had eroded above the riprap <br />since the riprap extended only from the toe to approximately the level of the <br />spillway. <br /> <br />When the Department expressed interest in the rehabilitation of this dam, _ <br />the planning for renovation was delegated to the engineering fi nn of Phillips- <br />Carter-Osborn, Inc. <br /> <br />Sucb renovation was to include f!.dclitional fill material to bring the dike up to <br />standard, additional rip rap on the upstream face to the crest of the fill, repair <br />of three fteel Qutlet tubes and rep~ir or replacement of parts in the gate <br />controJs to make them operative. <br /> <br />Also the exicting control house needed a new roof, door, -and windows. It <br />was further proposed to install new hydraulic pumping equipment and to place <br />the hydraulic control lines in one of the ou tlet tubes and thence to the control <br />house. <br /> <br />The contract was awarded to Spady Brothers of Las Animas whose low bid <br />was as follows: <br />
