OOlG'i:)

.

.

REPORT BY THE BUREAU OF RECLAMATION, REGION 4,
TO THE COLORADO WATER CONSERVATION BOARD

April 4, 1906

CONSTRUCTION

The eighth and last generating unit in the Glen Canyon Powerplant was

placed in commercial operation on February 2B, 1966. The total installed

generating capacity in all operating CRSP Powerplants is now 1,008,000 kilo-

watts. This total is made up of 900,000 kilowatts installed in the Glen

Canyon Powerplant and 108,000 kilowatts installed in the Flaming Gorge

Powerplant. Due to the relatively low elevation of the water in Lake

Powell, the Glen Canyon Powerplant has a capability of producing 760,000

kilowatts as compared to its rated capacity of 900,000 kilowatts. The

CRSP Powerplants are now generating more than 600,000 kilowatts to meet

peak hourly loads.

The prime contractor on Blue Mesa Dam is making the necessary modifi-

cations in the outlet works and in the channel downstream from the outlet

works. The completion contractor is getting well started under his Con-

tract for installing generating units and completing the powerplant.

Placement of concrete in Morrow Point Dam was resumed on March 25.

The highest block of concrete is about 103 feet above lowest bedrock. A

total of 46,000 cubic yards of concrete has been placed in Morro," Point

Dam as compared with the total of 360,000 cubic yards to be in the dam

proper.

Excavation of the underground powerplant is practically completed

and work will go ahead finishing the interior and making the necessary

installtions of equipment.
