ALBUQUERQUE, NM 87103 <br /> <br />For Release: September 3, 1999 <br /> <br />Contact: Shirley Mondy, 505-24~806 <br /> <br />l8SS <br /> <br />River Recovery Committee Hosts Public Meetings <br /> <br />The San Juan River Recovery Implementation Program Coordination Committee will be hosting <br />public meetings September 14 in Farmington, New Mexico, at the Farmington Civic Center, rooms <br />C and D, 7-9 pm and September 15 in Durango, Colorado, at the Best Westem Rio Grande Inn, 7-9 <br />pm. <br /> <br />These meetings will discuss the findings of a 7 -year research effort to determine water flows needed <br />in the San Juan River for the recovery of the federally endangered Colorado squawfish and razorback <br />sucker. Anyone interested is encouraged to attend and 1eam about the progress of the Recovery <br />Implementation Program. Committee members will conduct a presentation on flow recommendations <br />for the San Juan River anp provide information on the recovery efforts of native fish. <br /> <br />The San Juan River Recovery Implementation Program was initiated in 1992 to protect and recover <br />endangered fish in the San Juan River basin while allowing water development to proceed in <br />compliance with all applicable Federal and state laws. <br /> <br />Recover Team members include the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Bureau of Reclamation, Bureau <br />of Indian Affairs, Bureau of Land Management, Ute Mountain Ute Indian Tribe, Southern Ute Indian <br />Tribe, Jicarilla Apache Indian Tribe, Navajo Nation, State of New Mexico, State of Colorado, and <br />water development interests. <br /> <br />The San Juan River Recovery Implementation Program Coordination Committee will also be meeting <br />at the Best Western Rio Grande Inn in Durango on September 15, 10 am - 3 pm. The public is invited <br />to attend this as well.
