OOlG'll

.

.

A moderately high fall and early winter runoff into Lake Powell, in
addition to releases from Navajo Reservoir, has resulted in a steady in-

crease in storage since September 20. Lake Powell rose to a new high on

January 11 of 3,535.72 feet (content 8,838,000 acre-feet). Lake elevation
will not change significantly until the spring runoff. Based upon the
present forecast, Lake Powell storage will then increase to a July content
of about 12.4 million acre-feet with a water surface elevation of 3,581
feet.

Flaming Gorge Reservoir now stands at elevation 6,002 feet (content
2.4 million acre-feet) after reaching 6,006 feet on November 12, 1965.
Reservoir content will continue to decrease slowly until the spring run-
off. Fontenelle Reservoir will continue to be held at about 25,000 acre-
feet content until repairs on the dam have progressed sufficiently to

allow resumption of storage.

Navajo Reservoir has now been drawn down to 5,940 feet (content

380,000 acre-feet) from its high of 6,012 feet on August 3, 1965. Damage

to the main outlet works prevented their use until late October 1965 when

approximately 1,000 c.f.s. was released. This release together with 1,950

c.f.s. through the 30-inch hollow-jet valve and the auxiliary outlet

works has permitted withdrawal to the 5,940-foot level. Drawdown will

continue so as to assure adequate working time for completion of the

Navajo Indian Irrigation project tunnel heading, now estimated for May

1966.

Storage began in Blue Mesa Reservoir on October 27, 1965, and by Jan-
uary 9, 1966, had reached elevation 7,352 feet with reservoir content of
100,000 acre-feet. Total storage was increased by release of water from

4
