That to date the Bureau of Reclamation has expended <br />approximately $1,500,000 in investigations, etc., <br />on the Narrows Project; the State of Colorado has <br />expended approximately $200,000; and local interests <br />(both for and against) have expended significant but <br />undetermined sums. <br /> <br />b. That further site selection investigations would be <br />fruitless. <br /> <br />c. That the construction of the Narrows Project would <br />provide major economic benefits to the people of <br />Colorado for generations to come. <br /> <br />d. ~nat if major reservoir storage is constructed on the <br />lower South Platte River in the foreseeable future, <br />it will have to be const~~cted under Reclamation law <br />at the Narrows site. <br /> <br />"It is the staff recommendation that this Board immediately <br />transmit its official comments on the Narrows Unit of the Missouri <br />River Basin Project to the Secretary of the Interior, requesting <br />that construction be initiated as speedily as possible on the Narrows <br />Unit of the Missouri River Basin Project, with a dam to be constructed <br />at the Narrows site in substantial accordance with the plans contained <br />in the site selection report heretofore presented to this Board by <br />Region 7 of the Bureau of Reclamation, with the following additions: <br /> <br />A. 'rhat the project include a pump unit on the South Platte <br />River near Sterling, Colo., for the purpose of increas- <br />ing the project water supply approximately 32,000 <br />acre-feet annually. <br /> <br />B. That the project include a pump unit or units near or <br />adjacent to the Narrows Reservoir, for the purpose of <br />supplying additional irrigation water to either the <br />Riverside or Bijou Irrigation Districts, or both, if <br />such pumping can be economically justified, and if <br />by November 1, 1964, the board, of directors of these <br />respective districts indicate a desire that such pump <br />unit or units be included for study and possible inclusion <br />within the scope of the Narrows Project." <br /> <br />The preceding conclusions and recommendations were approved <br />and adopted by the Colorado Water Conservation Board. The Bureau <br />of Reclamation concurred and initiated the necessary studies. <br /> <br />31 <br />
