PREFACE AND ACKNDWLEDGEMENTS

The Kansas Water Resources Board, with support from the U.S. Bureau of
Reclamation and U.S. Department of Agriculture, undertook a comprehensive
study to determine the future water requirements for the State of Kansas.
The resul ts of that study are contained in this report. A report of this
nature could only be prepared with the collaboration of a number of
persons and agencies. The future water requirements could not have been
accompl ished without the economic projections of the Kansas economy
prepared by Dr. M. Jarvin Emerson, Professor of Economics, Kansas State
University, and Chief Economist, Kansas Office of Economic Analysis.
The funding for the economic projections were provided by the U.S.
Bureau of Reclamation and the Kansas Office of Economic Analysis.
Mr. Duane Hackmann, a graduate research assistant, Kansas State University,
provided consultation and assistance in translating the economic forecasts
into future water requi rements using computer techniques. Mr. Joe D. Hall,
the Bureau of Reclamation's State Liaison Officer, coordinated the
economic study and contributed his expertise in the evaluation of
future irrigation development. Dr. Robert Fletcher, Economic Research
Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture, provided invaluable data from
a state linear programming model for agriculture. The funding for
the I inear programming model was provided by the U.S. Department of
Agriculture. Finally, the Water Resources Board gratefully acknow-
ledges the assitance provided by the many persons who took time to
fill out the questionnaires about water use for industrial and electric
power generation purposes. Without this valuable information, the
credibi I ity of this report would be subject to question.
