<br />Region 7 is composed of 13 counties in the southwest corner of the
<br />state. It is predominately an agricultural area of large scale wheat
<br />and sorghum farming and 1 ivestock grazing. It had a population of
<br />71,000 in 1965. Over two-thirds of the region is cropland, producing
<br />mainly wheat and sorghum. Average farm size has increased from about
<br />1,040 acres in 1940 to over 1,490 acres in 1964.
<br />
<br />Since 1940, the population in the area has increased over 75 percent.
<br />All counties except Hamilton and Kearny have shared in the increase.
<br />There has been a widespread drop in the rural population and a
<br />subsequent growth in the region's cities and towns.
<br />
<br />Existing industry is geared to agriculture, machinery. printing
<br />and publishing, and natural resources extraction and processing.
<br />Since 1940, the growth in industrial employment has been greater
<br />
