Livestock production measured in dollars of output will increase over
three and a half times, as wil I the water required to support the
I ivestock. Employment in the I ivestock industry by the year 2020 will
be about one-half the employment in 1965.
The mining industry reflects decl ining gas and oil production and increas-
ing significance of nonmetallic mining. Employment will decrease steadily
during the projection period so that by 2020 the employment will be only
two-fifths of that in 1965. Perhaps the most significant trend in
mining is the increased water use. SI ightly less than a fivefold
increase in water requirements can be traced to a shift from a low water
use in gas and oil production to a high water requirement in certain
segments of the nonmetallic mining industry.
