<br />11 <br /> <br />Colorado State University Agricultural Extension Service <br /> <br />The Extension Service acts as the educational agency of the U.S. Depart- <br />ment of Agriculture. Extension special ists and county agents cooperate <br />wi th other agencies to provide local informat iGn re1at ing to conserva- <br />tion programs, resource development opportunities (Including human <br />resources), weed control, fertilizers, crop and 1 ivestock production, <br />homemaking and other educational programs. <br /> <br />Farmers Home Administration <br /> <br />Group Water Facil ities. The water facilities program is designed <br />to aid In the installation of water and waste disposal syste~5, and LG <br />aid in the development of community Irrigation, drainage and other- soil <br />and water conservation and use facil ities. <br /> <br />Loan Programs. Many types of loans are avai lable from FmHA to the <br />ranchers and landowners in this watershed. These include: (1) farm <br />ownerships; (2) farm operating; (3) farm emergency; (4) irrigation and <br />drainage; (5) grazing association; (6) Resource Conservation and Deve- <br />lopment; (7) watershed; and (8) soi I and water conservat ion, <br /> <br />Forest Service <br /> <br />The national forest development program is based upon the multiple use <br />concept of management, and provides overall direction and coordination <br />for the sagacious uti] ization of the renewable surface resources. <br />Because forest land varies widely in physiography, productivity and <br />suitabil ity for certain uses, broad management zones were defined. <br />Within each zone management 'situations were identified and basic assump- <br />tions for the use of renewable resources were developed. The water <br />yield from forest lands is included in these studies. <br /> <br />Soil Conservation Service <br /> <br />P.L. 566 Activities. The Roatcap Wash Flood Prevention Project is <br />an operational project within the Lower Gunnison Unit. The area also <br />has been studied in the Water and Related Land Resources, Gunnison River <br />Basin, Colorado (1962) Type IV river basin study, and by the Upper <br />Colorado Region Comprehensive Framework Study (1971), Type I river basin <br />study. <br /> <br />RC&D Program. An appl ication for RC&D program assistance has been <br />made by the Ute Lands RC&D Council. The Lower Gunnison Basin Unit is <br />included in this RC&D project area. <br /> <br />003060 <br />
