,

, ~; ')
...~ .J..W-

OPERATION AND MAINTEN ANCE

19

Tests were made to determine the extent of vibration that has
caused cracks in yanes of the turbine runners of the original design.
As a result of these tests critical vibration has been reduced by
modification of the vane contours. Such modification has been ac-
complished with the runners in place. Further progress of the
cracking has appeared to cease. Plans ha\'e been made to repair
existing crach in the runners prior to the time the District takes
over these units.

A spare turbine runner for Parker power plant was delivered in
October 1950. Plans to install this runner haye been abandoned
since cracking in the original rnnner has been arreHted.

The output of the Parker power plant was the lowest on record.
284,464,000 kwhI' below last year. This was the result of a dry year
on the Colorado River watershed, coupled with the use of a portion
of the releases from Lake Mead to fill Lake Mohave behind Davis
Dam, about half way between Hoover and Parker dams, and the
operation of the plant at a low head for a month. The following
table shows the gross and net generation, the replacement energ,I'
furnished by the District for water diverted above the dam for use
by San Diego, and the total energy delivered to the transmission
system.

KWIIU

(;ro"'~ l"ner/lY gt'nf'r:Jll"d III Parkn Dam.
Fner~y for ~Iatipn 1I,,(~

...... .s:l~.]19.0(lO
Ll24.2A2

Net energy gcneral..d
Rt'Jllll'~cment erwrgr, San Dicj!o di\,t'r<;inn..

. ....S.13.l94,71fl
4..-1-I~.O]f1

Total energy fur deli\'ery 10 trall!;;missioll ~y"It'Il1. ..............537,006.721:1

The power plant at Davis Dam was placed in operation during
the year and the Parker-Davis transmission system was expanded.

Canals. crr!l(!lI-its, siphons, tunnels, Wid -reser-uoh's

The main aqueduct carried Colorado River water continuously
throughout the year except for short shutdown periods of three
days each in December 1950 and February 1951 and one of two days
duration in May 1951.
