The portion used by the latter
in transpiration, and the evaporation from plant surfaces, the ground and
vater surfaces, accounts for the major portion of precipitation and makes
possible the agricultural production which is of major importance to the
Missouri Basin.

The majority of water systems, though not water systems for
majority of people, take their vater supplies from ground water.
larly, extensive irrigation is practiced, utilizing ground vater
source of supply.

the
Simi-
as a

The folloYing map indicates a large aquifer underlying Nebraska and
parts of Kansas, with rather substantial areas of aquifers scattered
throughout the Basin, which provide a good source of vater. There are a
fev areas in the Missouri Basin where extensive use of ground vater has,
in recent years, resulted in same levering of the vater table and there
are & fev areas vhere the vater table has been rising. The extensive
recent development of ground vater as a source of vater supply rai5es
the question of the adequacy in limited localities.

.

.
,

16

: ~~:;~:~;:~~2::~ ;~

.
;~"t".':>,

'-' ",,",: ~..
