<br /> <br />RESOLUTION <br />.;:> , <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the world is just emerging from the greatest war in <br />lis tory, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, it is of prime importance to the people of the United <br />tates that tIle returning soldiers, sailors and marines of the country <br />e given profitable employment, with the opportunity to acquire homes <br />hroughout the United St'ates upon lands which it is possible to reclaim <br />y the concerted action of the Federal Government and the various <br />tates of the Union, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Honorable Franklin K. Lane,' Secretary of. the <br />nterior, has suggested the co-operatio'1' of the United States with the <br />arious States looking to the ,reclamation, redemption and improvement <br />.f lands throughout the United. States and the- settlement hereon of <br />oIdiel's, sailors and marines under terms which should prove s:ttractive <br />o themj <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that this conference <br />cartily approves the general principles suggested by Se?retary Lane <br />and urges upon the Legislatures of the various States of <br />. , <br />the Union and npon the Congress of .the United States, <br />immediate- action looking to the erystalIizatiort in the <br />, form of laws of such provisions as wiII malee possible at <br />the earliest moment the furnisbing of &mploymertt to the <br />soldiers and sailors of tbe country on projects looking to <br />e reclaniation of all such lands as milY be made productive by the eon- <br />truetion of irrigation works, the- drainage of swamp lands and the <br />l~a,ring of cutover timber lands, with a view of placing upon stwh lands <br />eh soldiers', sailors, marines and citizens as may desire to avail .them~ <br />lves of the opportunity so offered, <br /> <br />ENERAL <br />PPROVAL <br />F LANE <br />LAN <br /> <br />-2- <br />
