<br />value retort gases will be used to generate electricity <br />and supply other process energy requirements. Some <br />electricity may be generated for local consumption in the <br />surrounding communities. There will be no excess energy <br />from retort gas for outside industrial use. <br />Excess refinery gases will be used as a domestic fuel <br />for the local communities, supplemented by natural gas from <br />nearby fields. By-product ammonia, 250-300 tons per day, <br />can be marketed in the Rocky Mountain area as a fertilizer. <br />The coke and sulfur will have no local market and must be <br />shipped outside the area. <br />The usage of petroleum products in the area will grow <br />in proportion to population, and industrial uses of fuels, <br />particularly diesel, will increase greatly. However, the <br />local market still will be small compared with production, <br />probably less than 10%. <br />The principal supplies consumed in shale oil produc. <br />tion and refining are drill-bits, explosives, lubricants, <br />water-treating chemicals, catalysts, and miscellaneous <br />maintenance materials. Essentially all such materials <br />during Phase III will be manufactured outside the area. <br />Construction materials such as steel, cement, lumber and <br />other manufactured items, though required in quantity, <br />also will largely be shipped in. <br />- - - - - - <br /> <br />In summary - During Phase III, the production of shale <br />oil will increase to about 150,000 barrels per day. The <br />product will be a partially-refined oil of exceptional <br />quality.
