This report is <br />different from the previous reports. We have changed the format <br />and shortened the report in order to highlight the major current <br />problems affecting California's rights and interests in the water <br />and power resources of the Colorado River. An appendix supple- <br />menting this report will present the detail on the Board's <br />activities and hydrologic data on the Colorado River that was <br />contained in earlier reports. This appendix will be sent to <br />only those parties requesting it. <br /> <br />Major actions occurring during 1973 resulted in the seven <br />Colorado River Basin states and the federal government moving <br />closer to solutions to Colorado River salinity problems. The <br />United States and Mexico signed a new agreement concerning <br />salinity of the niver and related matters. Legislation was <br />introduced in Congress to authorize a basin-wide salinity <br />control program and progress was made on investigations of <br />potential salinity control projects for the River system. A <br />new interstate organization of water resource and water quality <br />representatives from seven basin states was formed to develop <br />salinity standards and a plan of implementation for the entire <br />Colorado River Basin. <br /> <br />The above and other pertinent actions are covered in this <br />report and the appendix to the report. <br /> <br />S:~erelY yours, / <br /> <br />/~y), <br /> <br />R~ond R~.
