~

l'll)ra
......vJ

Proposed Colorado 64 Princlples -. Draft
January 22, 2003
Page 5 of?

Our resource stewardship
But, just as importantly, we believe those of us in the Denver metropolitan area have an
obligation to continue our progress in managing our current and future supplies wisely.
These management responsibilities include:

I. Progressive land use. and community development standards tliat support effective
and efficient use of scarce water supplies;

2. Effective water conservation and demand management practices;

3. Higher levels of water reclamation and re-use;

4. Increased operational efficiency of the current water supply systems.

We also recognIze that progress in implementation of these principles may require

additional cooperation among water agencies in the Denver metropolitan area.

Conclusion
In conclusion, we wish to express our gratitude for the efforts of the Colorado 58, and for
their recognition of the desirability of establishing "common ground" in anticipation of
new discussion of water development within Colorado.

We also wish to caution that these draft principles have been created by an informal
coalition comprising representatives of the Denver Metropolitan Mayors Caucus, the
Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce, the Denver Water Board and the Aurora Water
Department, with input from a representative of the Colorado environmental community.
However, none of these bodies have yet been formally presented with this draft for
review and approval.
