'

The Board also commenced studies of expanded irrigation
and power uses of Taylor Park Reservoir in the Gunnison basin which
may result from the construction of the authorized Curecanti unit
of the Colorado River Storage Project.

Studies are being made, by a State committee including
representatives of potential power users, to determine power re-
quirements of Colorado as related to the Colorado River Storage !
Project and means of transmitting the project power to Colorado load ;
centers. Power and energy requirements have been estimated for each,
year to 1980. The committee will continue studies of transmission
requirements based on allocations and the power market area to be
designated by the Secretary of the Interior.

A reconnaissance survey of phreatophyte infestation in
Colorado has been completed. The survey was conducted on a drainage
basin basis by personnel of the Extension Service of Colorado State
University. The data obtained are being used in computations of
potential water salvage.

Funds have been recommended in the President's budget to
commence construction on the Curecanti unit and the Florida partici-
pating project of the Colorado River Storage Project, and to con-
tinue construction of the Collbran, Paonia and Smith Fork projects
in western Colorado.

r

RMG / lk

-1 ~

.

Ji; ~",~',1

j,
,<
..
'''~,-
