From: ' C-;'A. Anderson, Arizona Committee Member

Subject: Quarterly Report, State of Arizona for 60-2 Meeting, June
1960, Carson City, Nevada

In addition to those activities in Arizona which will be
contained in current reports by various Federal agencies, there is little
new to report regarding progress of matters related to the work of this '-,
Committee for the period March 1, to May 31, 1960.

Stored Water Supplies

Notwithstanding favorable winter precipitation and soil
moisture conditions the Yield of streams to principal storage sites fell
considerably below quantities generally expected. Spring flows have
now subsided and, while total stored supply is generally above average,
no carry-over storage is indicated except in Salt River reservoirs.

Reports Pending

Various matters of importance to the State ar:ethe subjects
of reports recently completed, with early release expected. These
reports promise to exert influence on future programs of'work and improve-
ment affecting the development and administration of water resources within
Arizona. Among thes e are:

(1) Report of the Special Master in the case of Arizona v.
California. The material lately released by the Special Master is now'
receiving study by representatives of the affected States.

(2) Reports by the Corps of Engineers and the Bureau of
Reclamation on the feaSibility of certain improvements on the Gila River
from the San Carlos ProJ ect upstream to the head of the Safford Valley.
Release of these reports is expected soon. Meanwhile ne<;;otiations
between upper and lower area waterusers are continuing in an effort to
settle local differences with respect to future water use.

(3) Report by Task Force, Interior Field Committee, on the
effect of certain improvements constructed on San Simon Creek, Arizona.
It is believed that this report, the release of which is expected about June
15, will cast new light on the effect of construction for channel stabilization
and flood flow detention on the San Simon and similar drainage areas.
