<br />#' <br /> <br />002541. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />f <br /> <br />REPORT OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA <br />FOR THE 60-2 MEETING OF PSIAC <br />JUNE 17 AND 18, 1960 <br /> <br />June 6, 1960 <br /> <br />At the 1960 legislative session, $1,228.685 was appropriated <br />to the Department of Water Resources for cooperation with the federal <br />government on a matching basis. Somewhat more than half of this <br />amount is budgeted to the long established mapping and stream gaging <br />programs which have been carried on in cooperation with the Geological <br />Survey. Other programs for which state funds have been made available <br />include irrigation research, groundwater basin and subsidence studies, <br />specific yield studies, beach erosion investigations, research in <br />snow pack management, sediment investigations, water quality inves- <br /> <br />tigations, and other specialized studies. One of the last named <br />involves th~ development, installation, and rating of an ultrasonic <br />stream measuring station. <br />The gathering and processing of basic data is an increas- <br />ingly important activity of the Department of Water Resources. <br />Roughly $3,600,000 was appropriated for purposes which might be so <br />classified. " The Legislature specified that $75,000 of the amount <br />appropriated should be used only for a study of the basic data program <br />of the Department of Water Resources to establish the long-range <br />objectives, guide~ and priorities. A board of nationally known <br />consultants has been appointed and they, in turn, have chosen a firm <br />to carryon the detailed investigation and report to them. <br />An agreement which has as its ultimate objective the <br />coordinated operation of the Central Valley Project and the Feather <br /> <br />.t; <br /> <br />ji':' .;;~,. ,'.,;,:;, _J,Wi <br />
