Most of the M&I water providers within the NCWCD
boundaries (Study Area 1) utilize C-BT water for at least a portion of their
supply. As of April 1990, allotment contracts for nearly 117,000 units of
C-BT water were held by M&I water providers in Study Area 1, which is about
40 percent of the total units available. Most of these water providers
expected to increase their use of C-BT water in the future. Approximately
60 percent of the 480 Windy Gap shares were also owned by M&I water
providers in Study Area 1. Other sources of supply used in Study Area 1
included the Cache la Poudre River, the Big Thompson River, the St. Vrain
River, Boulder and South Boulder Creeks, various ditch companies, and ground
water. The safe annual yield of the water supplies available to M&I water
providers in Study Area 1 at the time of this study was estimated to total
nearly 230,000 ac-ft.

Groundwater was the most prevalent source of supply for most of the M&I
water providers in Study Area 2. As of April 1990, 48 Windy Gap shares (10
percent of the available shares) were also owned by water providers in Study
Area 2. Other sources of supply for Study Area 2 included Boulder and South
Boulder Creeks, various ditch companies, contracts with other M&I providers
such as the Denver Water Department, and some use of bottled water. The
safe annual yield of the water supplies available to M&I water providers in
Study Area 2 at the time of this study was estimated to total nearly 25,000
ac-ft.

Groundwater was also a significant portion of the water supply for many of
the water providers in Study Area 3. In addition, water providers in Study
Area 3 obtained water supplies from Clear Creek, the South Platte River,
transmountain and other transbasin diversions, various ditch companies,
and contracts with other H&I providers. The safe annual yield of the water
supplies available to H&I water providers in Study Area 3 at the time of
this study was estimated to total nearly 130,000 ac-ft.

-11-
